But if at all possible we consider alternative methods of tree conservation and we will propose alternatives such as:
Crown Reduction
Reducing canopy size stresses the tree because of the cuts required. Unlike a thinning cut, a drop-crotching cut does not cut back to a natural boundary, this means that decay can spread quickly inside cut branches, for this reason it is best not to perform crown reduction if at all possible.
Crown lifting
Crown lifting is carried out to increase the clearance between the ground level and the lower branches either to allow access below the tree, to clear sight lines, improve views or allow light to penetrate to the ground.
Deadwooding
Deadwooding should be done periodically to remove dead or diseased tree branches which may also be broken or weakly attached. This is especially important where public safety is an issue, especially public roads, parks, and gardens.
Stump Removal
Tree stumps can be very difficult to remove. We remove any stump quickly and efficiently with specialized equipment.
Site Clearance & Wood Chipping
Where required we will chip, shred or haul away all timber, branches and hedges from your site leaving the area as we found it. Removal of any deadwood greater then 5cm without attempting to remove it from the end of branches or areas with green foliage as in conifers
Pollarding
Pollarding is a method of pruning that keeps trees and shrubs smaller than they would naturally grow. It is normally started once a tree or shrub reaches a certain height, and annual pollarding will restrict the plant to that height.
Formative Pruning
While many trees will naturally form their adult shape as they grow, others need a little assistance to create a clear trunk and a well-spaced canopy of branches. It is wise to keep an eye on young trees and carry out formative pruning as required.

Would highly recommend Grasshopper. They were out with us today trimming hedges and filling in a gap where a part of an old hedge had died. They did a super job and the hedge looks great again. We live part of the time in Dublin and needed someone to look after our raised flower beds when we are away. We hired Grasshopper Services and have been very pleased with their work. Damian is the landscape specialist who works on our property. We are ever amazed at his knowledge of plants and their needs. He does an amazing job trimming and pruning and preparing the gardens for the winter. He also does an excellent job keeping the weeds at bay. We have a walled garden with no back entrance so Damian has to carry the waste through our Victorian rowhouse. He is very conscientious and careful when traversing our home. He is always on time. I would wholeheartedly recommend Grasshopper Services and especially Damian to look after a garden.
So pleased with the work carried out in my overgrown garden by Grasshopper Garden Services.
